Patient Advocacy

Dear Dr. Shin:

As a survivor whose life and family have been affected by head and neck cancer, I was thrilled to hear about the Emory SPORE in Head and Neck Cancer grant application you and Dr. Fadlo Khuri are submitting to the NCI.

It is gratifying to see how far the head and neck cancer research program at Emory has come and how much potential is there. As we recently discussed, the need for more innovative research in head and neck cancer is crucial to the long-term surival and quality of life of patients afflicted with these devastating diseases.

I would be delighted to serve as a Lay Advisor for this grant application and research program. I understand that this position on the Internal Advisory Board carries with it the responsibility of periodic review of the progress of the research program. I look forward to such involvment!

I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of well-deserved research funding and will be pleased to advocate for the lay perspective as you progress.

Sincerely,

Louis L. Lawson
Member of SPOHNC
